About Pamela

As an author, Feldenkais® Practitioner, and exercise teacher for those with physical challenges, Pamela Kihm helps people discover more healthful movement options. Frequently her clients find that subtle modifications to regimens prescribed by the medical community make those exercises noticably less painful and markedly more effective.

Stop Sciatica Now is based on Pamela’s experience helping clients since graduating from the 1000+ hour Feldenkrais Method® of Somatic Education training in 1991. This book project was proposed by one of Pamela’s former clients who was able to eliminate her debilitating sciatica in 1996, and has remained sciatica free by following the advice Pamela shares in Stop Sciatica Now.

The Method

The Feldenkrais Method® of Somatic Education and “skeletal engineering” are the foundations of Stop Sciatica Now.
I have long been intrigued by this subtle form of retraining the nervous system, which I currently recommend to patients whose movement has been restricted by injury, cerebral palsy, stroke, fibromyalgia, or chronic pain....I also believe that the Feldenkrais Method can help older people achieve greater range of motion and flexibility, and help all of us feel more comfortable in our bodies.

After years of trying to move through an active life in spite of severe pain, doctors informed Moshe Feldenkrais that knee surgery might help. However, they admitted there was only a 50% chance his pain would be eliminated. The doctors also admitted that surgery might cause him to lose some of his mobility. This was the 1940's, twenty-some years after he had torn his knee at a right angle playing soccer while he was at Sorbonne University in France earning his engineering degree.

Instead of having the surgery or continuing to force himself through pain, Dr. Feldenkrais zeroed in what he was doing differently when the pain wasn't as severe. He applied engineering principles to his own body. Those around him couldn't help but notice his improved movement and lack of pain. The reason why I'm contacting you again is that I want to pay for the book.... I [gave] the book a second chance and I believe that it has changed my life....

I drive a lift truck at work now for 17 yrs, which has no suspension and no air in the tires so when you hit a bump it goes all the way through you....Because I was sitting wrong my low back was taking a lot of abuse.

After reading the book again, I now ...sit in the correct way, and as you stated in the book, the bumps are actually therapeutic to my spine.... Yesterday afternoon I actually got off my lift truck at work pain free, which I thought would never happen.
